Stage 2 practical session

Testimonials/Feedback from Sydney SKMC1 August 2010

I have recently completed a Sarah Key Stage 1 Masterclass in Sydney.
What can I say? 'Science meets passion, art and experience'.
The course was well run by wonderful people who delivered good information and some novel and unique techniques to help our patients.
For the scholars, the concepts were well researched.
For the physios who have real lives, and can't spend them wading through journals and libraries, there were tools and techniques that made sense and do work.
For the patients - hope and confidence in less painful future they have control over. The physiotherapy profession is lucky to have someone who cares about it so much and is willing to communicate and share her ideas with us. Thank you Sarah, the 'old dog' did learn some new tricks.

"I cannot recommend  this course enough. I felt I have learnt more about lower back anatomy, pathology and treatment in the last 3 days than I learnt at uni and 3 years of physio. Sarah is a great teacher and I found this course very relevant and practical. I hope to look forward to doing the Stage 2 and Stage 3 courses and I'd love to take part in the back week. I cannot thank Sarah enough!"

"Awesome course- Best one yet! It made sense"

"This course was fantastic for making us think about what we have known in the past but it made so much more sense and became so simplified in my mind. I'm now so excited to treat backs!"

Testimonials/ Feedback from Sydney SKMC August, 2009

"I was sold in the first 10 minutes when I was informed this was not going to be 'another tool for the tool box'. It was already too full of ineffective tools!!"

" After years of feeling I could not provide an adequate explanation to patients, I now feel my own understanding is much clearer which will allow me to pass on a clearer explanation to patients. I'm so glad another physio has sought to find a better explanation and theoretical picture of back pathology and is so willing to pass on her knowledge."

" Sarah makes the complex beautifully simple. I love her approach and her willingness to be so honest and transparent with her clinical reasoning. It has been a real privilege to see up close exactly how it all works and to have the priceless opportunity to have feedback on our own techniques. It was a fabulous course and I highly recommend it to all practitioners. ( You are missing out on a gem if you don't!!)"

" This is a theory that sheds light on so many areas of confusion that are reinforced by university and conventional physio. Hopefully "non specific lower back pain" will become a thing of the past. The mobilisation method is extremely comfortable and surprisingly easy to do."

Testimonials/Feedback from Sydney SKMC February, 2009

" Sarah Key's theory of spinal breakdown and proposal for treatment is logical, fascinating and is based on research and evidence rather than hearsay and presumption- as many physiotherapy treatments are. I think she is doing important work to open physiotherapists eyes to how poorly we understand back pain. I found this course extremely practical and educational and Sarah's willingness to challenge traditions of physiotherapy, by applying evidence in her treatment , inspiring."

" A convergence of theory and practice, a real confidence builder"

Testimonials/Feedback from Sydney SKMC September, 2006

"Hi Sarah,
I just wanted to thank you again and let you know that I found our weekend Masterclass one of the most rewarding weekends of my life!! You probably think I need to get out more, with a comment like that, but truly it was brilliant.
I first read your book about 4 years ago and had an idea from your wording in the book the passion and love you must have for your patients and the enjoyment you get out of treating them. It was just beautiful to see and experience your passion in real life (now I am getting all weepy!!! My mum rang me this morning and asked about the weekend as she knew how excited I was about it and I found myself weeping down the phone within seconds, as I tried to explain to her my thoughts! I often cry with and about my patients so this is not new for me!)
I absolutely love your analogies for things and think you should write a little book that houses all of them. Like a quote book and it should be mandatory for all physios to have on their desk! I must admit, after reading your first book, I use your analogies all the time and I know this has a lot to do with my patient compliance; understanding is so vital to their recovery. I have always believed this and again it was great to hear reinforce this over the weekend.
Today back at work I have given out (sold) 5 BackBlocks and can’t wait to monitor my patients' responses to them. They are all been doing your exercises in some form so transition to the BackBlock seemed so natural. They all knew it was coming as I had been preparing them for months about my trip to your course. I shall certainly keep you posted with regards to their progress.
Anyway Sarah, thank you for being brave enough to voice your thoughts and your model. It opens you up to questions, judgment and feelings of vulnerability and I am sure that this is frightening. But just form my experience of the last 4 years, your model works and I just can’t wait for the world to get!! I can’t wait for many more of our colleagues to hear about you and use your model and get such pleasure in treating their patients, just like you and I do.
I can’t wait to do Stage 2, like a little kid waiting for Christmas Day....
Anyway, off to give out another BackBlock, I think I need to order a sea container of these wonderful things.
Thanks again, "
Coralie ( Perth, Western Australia )

Stage 2 discussion

Testimonials/Feedback from Sydney SKMC May 2006

"I did the Sarah Key Course because after many years in physio and various changes in vogue regarding methods of back treatment, I was feeling totally ineffective and in a muddle. Sarah's course gave me a whole new concept re: theory and practical treatment - which makes perfect sense! The practical way of treating with the feet appeals to me as it allows me to use much stronger techniques, and not with my hands. I'm sure my patients are going to enjoy the new genre of treatment and home exercise programme. My treatment of spinal patients will be much more precise and much more effective. Thank you Sarah!"
Jenny Van Leeuwen ,Sunshine Coast, Queensland

"What an inspirational weekend. Sarah's energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Her revolutionary theory on the breakdown of the human spine makes a lot of 'logical sense'. I can't believe someone hasn't come up with it beforehand. I have felt my treatment of backs and necks in the past has been disjointed. After this weekend I'm hoping my treatments will be delivered with more confidence and that they will be far more effective."
Liz Harvey, Albury, NSW

"Sarah Key is a very gifted and inspirational person. Her extensive reading has been applied - with common sense - to normal function and to develop a systematic approach for physiotherapists to treat back pain."
Martin Pogson

"I found the Sarah Key's Masterclass inspiring and exciting. We are always asked to 'think outside the square you live in' and I believe Sarah does and challenges us to all do so as well. In addition to her challenge, she gives us a map or foundation to do this with and then provides a backup source of support (via the SKMC Forum) so you dont just go home and lapse into old habits.
I hope to use her ideas and techniques on an increasing and successful basis, and I believe the results will be great.
I would be very keen to participate in any and all further education offered by SKPC. She is an inspirational woman who all should meet at least once in their lives."
